Job Description:
The Town of Westwood seeks a talented individual for the seasonal position of Summer Camp Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration and operation of a comprehensive full-day summer camp program. Duties include planning, coordinating and supervising a wide variety of activities at camp, as well as staff management, field trip planning, and special event coordination.

The position is 40 hours per week during camp, which starts June 24, 2024, and runs until August 9, 2024. Part-time, pre-season hours are necessary and flexible in the winter and spring.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Management and coordination of the 7-week Westwood Recreation Summer Day Camp for grades Kindergarten through 8th, open Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 5:30pm.

Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all campers.

Plan, direct, supervise and lead the daily operations of the Westwood Recreation Day Camp program and create a high energy, fun and creative experience for campers.

Assist in preparing and facilitating pre-camp staff trainings, including a dedicated camp training and a childcare training.

Assist with interviewing, hiring and evaluating Camp Staff.

Help Program Manager acquire and maintain Camp license. Possess a general knowledge of MA Camp Licensing requirements.

Oversee planning of the schedule and curriculum during preseason.

Coordinate camp entertainment including field trips, entertainers and equipment rentals.
Work with Program Manager to manage disciplinary action as needed. Must be able to effectively and tactfully handle disciplinary issues amongst campers and staff.
Prepare camp lists for each week.

Meet with Program Manager regularly to discuss supplies, special events, weekly theme weeks and budget.

Oversee the use of equipment and maintenance of grounds. Report damage to facility immediately to the Program Manager. Make repairs if possible.

Must be able to perform duties of the Health Supervisor in their absence.

Oversee Supervisor team including CIT Supervisor, Health Supervisor and Camp Senior Supervisors.

Oversee safe drop off and dismissal process.

Work cooperatively with other members of the Recreation Department to ensure smooth operation of camp, including Aquatics Director and Recreation Assistant.

Ensure all camp staff complete their payroll timesheets accurately and on time.
Implement department safety and emergency policies to maintain health, safety and welfare of all campers and staff.


Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, or related field; Teacher certification preferred; three years’ supervisory camp/program experience required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements/Certifications: Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator’s license; First Aid and CPR/AED certification by start of camp.

Schedule requirements: Mandatory staff trainings in early June (Dates TBD). Work commitment is Monday – Friday, June 24 – August 9, 2024 (No July 4th).

Salary:
$25.00 to $27.00
