Bangor Public Library Hiring for Library Social Worker

Location: Bangor, Maine

Job Description:
The Bangor Public Library seeks a full-time social worker for a fixed period of 24 months. The position is available immediately and start-date is negotiable.

The Bangor Public Library is one of the largest public libraries in the state. Both this library and this city serve as a regional hub for the rural communities in northern and eastern Maine. The nationwide, statewide housing crisis and opioid use crisis have had a disproportionate impact on Bangor, a service-center city.

As the prominent, zero-barrier daytime warming option in Bangor, we want our response to be supportive, deliberate, evidence-based, and focused on the needs of the community. This fixed-length position will also help prepare this library to respond to community needs for years to come.

The Social Worker will respond to urgent needs on-site, will coordinate between the library and relevant social services agencies, will help to guide staff training, and will support the well-being of staff. The person in this position will not be providing mental health treatment to library staff or library users.

A full description of duties, qualifications, and compensation is provided in the job description posted on the library’s website (https://www.bangorpubliclibrary.org/employment).

To apply, please send a resume, cover letter, and two professional references to Tina Hustus, Business Manager ([email protected]). Review of applications will begin on January 30, and will continue until a sufficient applicant pool is established.
