Volunteer & Member Services Manager Full time

Location: Hybrid/ On-Site and Remote (Waltham, MA)

GBPFLAG has implemented a hybrid work model of in-office and remote work days to ensure quality programming and commitment to the GBPFLAG community along with the health and wellbeing of staff members.

Summary: Greater Boston PFLAG is a non-profit organization of parents, families, friends, and LGBTQ+ individuals who work to help change attitudes and create an environment of understanding so that our LGBTQ+ family members and friends can live in a world that is safe and inclusive. We accomplish this through support, education, and advocacy by offering: monthly support groups, a confidential resource line, parent-to-parent support, school programs that involve teacher and student training, community programs for businesses and other organizations. Greater Boston PFLAG’s office is located in Waltham, MA.

Summary of Role:

The Volunteer & Member Services Manager will play an integral role in helping Greater Boston PFLAG achieve its mission of providing support, education, and resources to parents, caregivers, and loved ones of lgbtq+ individuals to create a safer and more inclusive world. Building and deepening relationships to understand our various and evolving volunteer and member needs to deliver support relevant and engaging services. Serve as GBPFLAG’s member relationship leader through ongoing communications and opportunities for engagement with our highly valued community of volunteers and members. This position offers a unique opportunity to increase community engagement through volunteer recruitment, training, management, and retention.

The Volunteer & Member Services Manager serves as a primary point of contact with volunteers and members, responsibilities will also include answering questions, managing the support group facilitators and helpline volunteers and programs, facilitating onboarding procedures, enhancing and presenting virtual training materials, and leading community focused activities and programs. These activities and programs occur during both regular business hours, as well as evenings and weekends, to best serve our community needs. This role will strengthen and maintain relationships with our community of parents, caregivers, and loved ones of lgbtq+ individuals.

The Volunteer & Member Services Manager will report to the Director of Program Outreach & Impact.

Salary: $55,000/year

Areas of Responsibility:

Volunteer Services

  • Support and manage GBPFLAG’s 16 support groups throughout Greater Boston
    • Oversee recruitment, training, and ongoing support of volunteers
    • Manage communication with all facilitators and Helpline/1:1 volunteers
    • Maintain process to facilitate volunteer feedback/suggestions
  • Strengthen and maintain relationships with speakers, facilitators, helpline volunteers, and other long-term volunteers
  • Manage volunteer tracking systems and maintain current and accurate records
  • Maintain support for current Support Groups and develop new support groups as needed
  • Manage annual volunteer appreciation events

Member Services

  • Strengthen and maintain relationships with our community of parents, caregivers, and loved ones of lgbtq+ individuals
  • Connect members to the support, education, and resources of GBPFLAG

Program Collaboration

  • Communicate and advertise events/projects for volunteers
  • Support volunteer program opportunities introduced through corporate program relationships

External Communication

  • Manage the volunteers email account and respond to inquiries on a timely basis
  • Data Collection/Systems Management
  • Coordinate volunteer database/information, with relevant departments
  • Manage reporting as needed by organization on numbers/hours and uses of volunteer


  • Assist in recruiting volunteers for help at special events, conferences and fundraising galas (Pride & Passion)
  • Assign and supervise volunteers as needed at events, conferences, galas

  • Experience with peer-led, non-clinical support group management
  • Experience working with parents, caregivers, and loved ones of the LGBTQ+ community
  • Passion for GBPFLAG’s mission and purpose and an ability to communicate this passion to others
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience supporting and managing volunteers
  • Communications skills, experience in internal and external communications, including newsletters, training content creation, and project planning
  • Experience with database systems, Salesforce, etc.
  • Strong demonstrated use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint
