Youth Development Programs Lead – QARI

Walker Therapeutic & Educational Programs (Walker) is a leading nonprofit organization
providing comprehensive programming in the fields of child welfare, children’s behavioral health,
and special education. Walker provides high-quality, evidence-informed supports and services
to children and families from over 150 communities throughout Massachusetts. Walker’s
portfolio of programs includes residential and education programs as well as a full array of
outpatient, home-based, and community-based services.


QARI is currently looking for a dynamic, mission-driven individual with a Bachelor’s degree in
social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education or a relevant human
services area to join their team as the Youth Development Programs Lead. Under the
Massachusetts Programs & Service Manager at QARI, the Youth Development Programs Lead
will oversee QARI’s youth leadership development programs, and support innovation and
development of new programs for these youth groups. He/she will focus on the community,
knowing their client’s experiences, be able to lead, motivate and support the immigrant
community through academic, social justice, and mental health services in Quincy and the
South Shore. In addition, the position will work closely with the Director of Community Based
Services at Walker Therapeutic and Educational Programs to oversee the Get the Teens Out
(GTTO) Program and provide referrals to direct mental health services, including individual,
group, and family therapy which can be held at QARI sites, in clients’ homes or schools.

Hours/Week Category: 37.5
Reports To: MA Programs & Service Manager (QARI)

Responsibilities:

Mentoring program/ U and I Mentoring:
● Create matches between middle school mentees with high school mentors
● Work directly with minimum of 10 mentoring pairs
● Plan activities to foster mentoring relationships
● Provide leadership development with mentors
● Conduct or collaborate with other QARI programs to ensure that weekly
wellbeing checks with the youth and their parents once a month to provide
integrative services are conducted.
Time Commitment: ~12 hours per week

YSC Youth Service Corps: Oversee the Youth Leadership Board and Committees.
● Guides and mentor youth leaders in their annual projects
● Provide or ensure that monthly wellbeing check ins with youth leaders and their
families are conducted.
● Support the monthly YSC Bubble Teatime Mandarin Sessions
● Assists the Massachusetts Program and Services Manager during QARI’s
cultural festivals and signature events
Time Commitment: ~6 hours per week

College and Workforce Preparedness Program
● Oversee activities, which include teaching basic technology, professional etiquette,
and other key life & career skills, that facilitate their transition from high school to
postsecondary education or the job market
● Identify and secure summer internships and part-time jobs
Time Commitment: ~4 hours per week

Social Justice Education and Awareness
● Support QARI’s leadership team to integrate social justice and education across our
programs that allow opportunities for youth to lead the conversation with their
community leaders, to celebrate their heritage, history, and culture, and empower
them to work towards positive change in their communities.
Time Commitment: ~4 hours per week

Get the Teens Out program Works closely with the Director of Community Based
Services at Walker to:
● Conduct focus groups with middle and high school students to determine topics of
therapeutic groups
● Help design group activities and measurement tools
● Market groups and recruit student participants
● Oversee wellness groups
● Help plan and oversee workshops for parents
Time Commitment: ~10 hours per week

Referrals to Walker Therapeutic and Educational Programs Work closely with Walker
clinicians
● Consult with other QARI employees to help determine if referrals are appropriate to
be made to Walker
● Meet with QARI clients as indicated to provide warm handoff to Walker clinicians.
● Collaborate with Walker Clinicians in determining ways to decrease stigma among
Asian clients in considering taking part in mental health counseling.
Skills & Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology or a related human services degree
● Preferred at least two years in a leadership role with youth
● Fluency in Mandarin required; fluency in Cantonese, Spanish and/or Portuguese a plus
● A high level of compassion and empathy
● A strong team player who thrives in handling ambiguous situations and assigned tasks by
building strong relationships with team members, clients and partners or Demonstrated
ability to work collaboratively within a team structure
● Able to manage goals while maintaining priorities
● Must be able to work some weekends and evenings depending on the need
● Experience working with children and adolescents with behavioral health needs and their
families
● Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in responding to a variety of family, home, and/or
community environments
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Knowledge of G Suite and Salesforce software a plus
● Driver’s license and reliable vehicle
Physical Requirements:
● Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
● Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
