Part time (0.5 FTE) grant funded Senior Social Work position in Pediatric Palliative care — NYU Langone, Manhattan campus

This position is newly created to enhance the Pediatric Advanced Care team, (PACT) care provision at, The Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital.  This social worker will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary PACT team, and will interface with the primary care teams on pediatric care units.  The pediatric palliative care social worker provides direct clinical counseling and crisis/grief interventions to patients and families, and will facilitate staff debriefs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, comprehensive psychosocial assessment to assess individual and family coping strengths, understanding of medical information as it relates to end stage illness or end of life, development of interventions to address barriers and needs, participation in HRO huddles to help engage and integrate unit staff on care plans and best practices, provide supportive counseling to promote patient and family adjustment to illness, catastrophic diagnoses, anticipatory grief and bereavement, perform data collection as part of Joint Commission Accreditation standards/grant feedback requirements, and participate in committee level work to enhance the provision of Palliative Care supports across the continuum. 


Potential candidates should have strong interest in working with children and families at end stages of illness, and with those living with chronic and progressive disease, be comfortable and have therapeutic knowledge to help children and families through the dying process, and have interest/experience in program development to partner with leadership to enhance the Pediatric and Perinatal Bereavement program.  The position requires an MSW degree, to hold an LCSW (or complete prior to end of 6 month probation), at least 4 years of experience as a licensed social worker and completion of a Palliative/End of Life Care certificate or fellowship from an accredited program.  The position will be 3 days a week.
