Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences: Social Work Fellowship

Program Description: Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences (MCSHS) at Mayo Clinic’s campus in Jacksonville, Florida, offers a 24 month full-time Social Work Fellowship program. The fellowship program will include 3-6 months of clinical rotations in Transplant, Cancer Center, Transplant Inpatient, Palliative, Neuroscience, Advance Care Planning, Research and other clinical areas. The fellow will participate in all facets of clinical social work including but not limited to direct patient biopsychosocial evaluations, documentation, support groups, selection conferences, care team rounds and section staff meetings. Mayo Clinic focuses on multidisciplinary collaboration in meeting the needs of the patient. This program will offer a stipend and medical benefits.

Each year, the Section of Social Work will admit one fellow to the Social Work Fellowship program.

Due to COVID-19, this program was closed down for its normal star date of September 1st, 2020. We are reopening the program to begin January 4, 2021. This means that the application process will be from September 21, 2020 to October 21, 2020.

Qualifications:
Requirements for the fellowship are:

  • Master of Social work (MSW) or Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) degree from an accredited social work program
  • Fellowship Written Examination
  • Resume
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts of their graduate program

If a student will be graduating in August of the year they wish to start, they may still apply and provide unofficial transcripts at the time of applying. Official transcripts will be required once graduation occurs. Candidates may be invited for an interview and if offered placement, a fellowship contract will be signed.

Curriculum:
MCSHS Social Work Fellowship program provides a high-quality didactic and clinical experience. There is exposure to a diverse patient population as well as highly proficient clinical staff at Mayo Clinic in Florida. Weekly clinical supervision will be provided to meet requirements for Florida licensure.

Clinical Rotations:
During the 24 month program, the fellow will spend 3-6 months in all social work clinical areas on the Florida campus. The fellow will have task supervisors or Qualified Supervisors as preceptors. All supervisors are Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW).

Licensure:
This program will provide the fellow with:

  • Two years of a variety of specialty clinical experience at Mayo Clinic
  • Two years of clinical supervision to prepare for examination for licensure in the State of Florida.
