Even in the midst of the current global health crisis, the San Francisco Veterans Administration Health Care System (SFVAHCS) remains committed to meeting the educational and professional goals of tomorrow’s social workers.

It is with this commitment in mind, that we are inviting applications for our 2021’s Post-Masters Social Work Fellowship in Rural Health at the Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic in Eureka, California.  This post-graduate clinical training program teaches advance practice skills in Veteran-centric rural health care.  Each year, the SFVAHCS funds over 189 Residency and Fellow positions, and more than 40 allied health professional trainees rotate through our Medical Center. However, prior to 2014 none of these training opportunities were available to post-graduate social workers. We are very pleased to be able to again offer this exceptional learning experience.  

We are seeking two (2) Post-Masters Social Work fellows for full-time, paid positions of one year duration September 8, 2020- September 3, 2021. Fellows must meet VA Qualification Standards for employment in the discipline prior to entering the fellowship program, including registration with the California BBS as an Associate Social Worker. Fellows must be US citizens. We are currently accepting applications from students and recent graduates of accredited Schools of Social Work across the nation.

Develop advanced, specialized skill in the delivery of Veteran-centered health care in rural settings. Training emphasis on empirically validated individual, group, couples and family therapy treatments, and Tele-Mental Health.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Experiential learning and didactic strategies
  • 25 clinical hours
  • 2-3 direct supervision hours
  • 3-4 didactic hours/week

Faculty includes Clinical professors in Social Work, Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco, Smith College, and the University of Wyoming, as well as distinguished VA Mental Health Staff.

Stipend: $36,491 + Benefits

Benefits include Health Insurance, 10 Paid Federal Holidays, accrued vacation, and up to 13 days of sick leave.
